A Perfect Romantic Getaway: Our 6-Day Vietnam Escape from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc

Namaste! We’re an Indian couple, back with another unforgettable journey, this time to the captivating south of Vietnam. From the high-energy vibes of Ho Chi Minh City to the sun-drenched beaches of Phu Quoc Island, this 6-day tour was a rollercoaster of history, food, and relaxation.

We booked this trip hoping to get a bit of everything: culture, adventure, beaches, and, of course, quality time together. Let’s take a look at my detailed trip!

Day 1: Arrival in Ho Chi Minh City – First Impressions

Our flight landed in Ho Chi Minh City around noon, and we were greeted by a friendly tour guide from the BestPrice team. A short ride later, we checked into our cozy hotel in District 1, the beating heart of the city.

Although the official check-in was at 2 PM, we managed to relax in the lobby and freshen up. The hotel staff were extremely warm, and guess what? They even greeted us with a “Namaste” once they learned we were from India!

We decided to explore the city on our own that evening. The streets were bustling with scooters, street food stalls, and smiling locals. We ended the day with some authentic pho and Vietnamese iced coffee from a little roadside café. Jet lag didn’t stand a chance!

Day 2: Cu Chi Tunnels & the Soul of Ho Chi Minh

The next morning, our guide picked us up at 8:00 sharp for a journey back in time, to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Just two hours from the city, these underground tunnels told the stories of resilience and survival during the war. As history lovers, this was one of the most emotional and eye-opening parts of our trip. We even tried crawling through one of the narrow tunnels, and let’s just say, it’s not made for tall people.

Post-lunch, we visited several iconic sites in the city: Reunification Palace, the grand Old Post Office, and the still-under-renovation Notre Dame Cathedral. The War Remnants Museum was deeply moving. As Indians, we connected with the Vietnamese struggle for independence. The exhibits were intense, but incredibly important to see. We wrapped up the day wandering through Ben Thanh Market, a paradise for shopaholics and foodies! We picked up some Vietnamese silk scarves and local snacks to bring back home.

Day 3: Floating into the Heart of Mekong Delta

The tour started early again, with a trip to the Ben Tre Province in the Mekong Delta. The river cruise along the Ham Luong River was simply surreal, with palm-lined banks, floating houses, and locals waving at us as we passed by.

We stopped at a coconut processing workshop and tasted freshly made coconut candy (sooo addictive!), then moved on to a mat-weaving village where my boyfriend even gave the loom a try.

One of the highlights? Riding a Xe Loi (a fun local-style rickshaw) through a peaceful village, followed by a sampan boat ride through the narrow canals. It was like a dream! Surrounded by mangroves, we felt totally at peace.

Lunch by the riverside was simple, fresh, and delicious, with lots of vegetables, grilled fish, and tropical fruits. Our guide even taught us how to properly eat rambutan!

Day 4: Flying to Paradise – Hello Phu Quoc Island!

We bid farewell to Ho Chi Minh City and took a short flight to Phu Quoc Island, a tropical paradise off Vietnam’s southwest coast. No guide today, but the transfer was smooth.

Our resort in Phu Quoc was wow! Beachfront views, coconut trees swaying, and the sound of waves, this was exactly the kind of romantic break we needed. We spent the afternoon just strolling along the beach and watching the sunset hand in hand.

Dinner was a beachside BBQ with fresh seafood. We couldn’t have asked for more!

Day 5: Leisure & Love in Phu Quoc

This was a free day to just relax or explore, and we did a bit of both! In the morning, we booked the Phu Quoc 3 Islands Snorkeling Tour. The coral reefs were colorful, the water crystal-clear, and it was our first time snorkeling together.

Later, we treated ourselves to a spa session at the hotel and just lounged by the pool sipping coconut water. The vibe of Phu Quoc is so chill and unhurried, a perfect couple’s escape.

Day 6: Farewell but Not Goodbye

The final morning came too soon. After a hearty breakfast, we packed our bags (with a few tears), took one last walk along the beach, and headed to the airport for our return flight.

This 6-day journey through southern Vietnam was unforgettable, not just for the sights, but for the warmth of the people and the unique blend of culture and nature. As an Indian couple, we felt welcome everywhere. Vegetarian food options were easy to find, and the tour was well-paced and thoughtfully designed. We plan to check out more Vietnam tours and will return next year.
