Jose Mourinho has voiced his support for Manchester United’s decision to stand by manager Ruben Amorim, despite a disappointing season that saw the club fall far short of expectations.
A Season to Forget, But Hope Remains
Under Ruben Amorim’s leadership, Manchester United endured one of their worst campaigns in history, finishing 15th in the Premier League. The Red Devils also missed out on Champions League qualification after a narrow 0-1 defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final, link live CakhiaTV.
Despite the setback, Mourinho believes the club is on the right path by showing faith in the Portuguese coach. Speaking to Sky Sports, Mourinho remarked:
“From what I’ve read, that loss had a huge impact on Manchester United. It’s been years since they’ve had such a bleak presence in European competitions. But it seems the board still trusts Ruben. They are giving him time and resources to carry on with the project.”
Amorim’s Difficult Start – And a Potential Turning Point
Amorim took over at Manchester United in November, leaving Sporting Lisbon mid-season. After the club’s poor showing in the Premier League, he publicly apologized to fans but expressed optimism about the road ahead. He views the lack of European competition next season as a valuable opportunity to reset and rebuild. Read more Nhận Định bóng đá 2025
Mourinho related to Amorim’s situation by drawing on his own early days at Porto:
“I read some of Ruben’s statements—he said he was glad to have those first six months to adapt and lay the foundation,” Mourinho explained. “When I joined Porto in January 2002, I faced a similar challenge. It was a rough start, and we struggled just to qualify for the UEFA Cup. But then, something amazing happened.”
The Mourinho Blueprint: A Lesson in Patience
Mourinho famously led Porto to a historic treble in his first full season—winning the league, domestic cup, and the UEFA Cup. The following year, he guided them to Champions League glory in 2003/04.
Now, he hopes Amorim is given the same space to build his vision at Old Trafford:
“Great things take time. United must remain patient. Sometimes, success comes when you least expect it.”
