Retractable Fly Screens – Key advantages for Modern Homes

Retractable Fly Screens

Our Dilemma

After our family doubled overnight, we moved to a new property in Epping. We made some structural alterations that included installing French windows leading onto a garden area and bifold doors opening onto the patio. We needed new fly screening and other screening needed replacing. All our fly screening needs thus became a niggling early priority.

We didn’t want to spoil the traditional nature of the house but wanted ease of use and costs were a key consideration.

Why did we turn to retractable fly screens?

We felt there were three big benefits.

Security

Retractable fly screens provide an extra layer of security for homes. When extended, they act as a physical barrier, making it more difficult for intruders to access windows and doors. Unlike traditional screens, retractable screens are designed to be discreet and unobtrusive, maintaining the aesthetic of your home while offering enhanced security.

They are often constructed with durable materials that resist tampering, adding an additional deterrent against break-ins.

Pest Control

In Melbourne (where flying insects can be horrendous in summer), and Australia in general pest control is crucial due to the country’s bloomin’ insects (my wife used another expletive….)

Retractable fly screens effectively keep out mozzies, flies, and other bugs without the need for chemicals. Their fine mesh design blocks even the smallest insects, providing a natural and chemical-free solution for keeping your home comfortable. With retractable screens, you can enjoy the fresh air and natural light without worrying about those invasive pests.

Cost Efficiency

Retractable fly screens are a cost-effective choice in the long run. There was a higher initial investment compared to standard fixed screens but we felt their durability and low maintenance requirements offered savings over time. They are designed to withstand various weather conditions, reducing the need for frequent replacements. Additionally, their ability to fit multiple window and door sizes means you can avoid the expense of custom solutions for every opening.

Overall, retractable fly screens offer a blend of enhanced security, effective pest control, and long-term cost savings.

But there are more benefits yet that we found – their lightweight configuration made them easy to open and close especially for our invasive pests (the young twins!!). The style really fit in with our new home’s decor and with the installation done by experts, there was no damage done at all to our doors and windows that could have been a headache.
